Feature Request: host-identified node groups

In the current setup – for LTM, each interface on back-end, resource servers (nodes) is registered on the F5 system. In the event that a system has multiple interfaces, they would each require to be registered to the Node List - if the requirement exists.

When you need to disable the system for maintenance, you have to track down each node related to the system and make the change. This could be simplified by providing a grouping feature which provides simple access to disabling, forcing a device offline, or enabling them. Rather than update several nodes for the system, just perform the action at the group – and the LTM could propagate the update to associated nodes.

  • Let me first explain what you need to do to create an RFE (Request for Enhancement).

Firstly, that needs to be done via F5 support, devcentral users will not be able to create that request. You can open the case explaining what you want, they will do the necessary analyzes with you. If they think that make sense, and there is no RFE already created, they will send you a form so you can detail the request, use case, business impact, etc...

That said, what we can do in devcentral is provide ideas how to do that. And the idea is...

When you create the nodes, you can give the same name, like group1_fqdn_eth0 and group1_fqdn_eth0. If you need to disable all interfaces for that server, you can do a search in the node list with fqdn, click in the select all button and disable/force offline. If you need to disable all nodes in a group, you can do a search in the node list with group1*, click in the select all button and disable/force offline.
