Can F5 11050 support 1GBit Eth copper?

Hi all,

 

 

We want to make 1 giga utp connection to f5 11050.

 

But we are not sure that a module can support to operate 1000base-T mode (utp).

 

(11050 has 10 x 10GE SFP+ fiber ports according to platform guide document.)

 

 

Can we use 1 giga ethernet utp connections on 11050?

    Hi Gazi,

     

     

    Per the platform guide, I believe so using an optional copper SFP:

     

     

    Network interface

     

    • 1000BASE-SX - 850 nm (LC connector, optional)

     

    • 1000BASE-LX - 1310 nm (LC connector, optional)

     

    • 1000BASE-T copper SFP (RJ45 connector, optional)

     

    • 10GBASE-SR - 850nm (LC connector, two modules included)

    Hi Aaron,

     

     

    We tested cisco 1gigabit ethernet copper sfp module on 8900 sfp+ interfaces.

     

    As a result we saw that it was not worked, this interface was not able to be "up" and it was down.

     

    This module was be able to work accurately on 8900 sfp interfaces.

     

     

    Can we use 1 giga ethernet utp connections on 11050 with another sfp module?

     

    "BIG-IP SFP Copper Gigabit Ethernet Connector" can deal with this case?

     

    Are you sure this module can make this job?

    Hi Gazi,

     

     

    I'm not sure if non-F5 supplied SFPs are expected to work. The F5 supplied one should work though. You might try contacting your F5 FSE or partner to get help with this.

    SFP-C Copper SFP Transceiver (UTP Connector) is what F5 refers to as F5 Gigabit Ethernet 1000Base-T Copper SFP modules and they comply with IEEE standards 802.3ab (1000BASE-T).

     

     

    The following specifications are for the available Copper Gigabit Ethernet modules and the platforms that support those modules.

     

    Important: 1000Base-T network segments have a maximum length of 100 meters (328 feet) and must use Category 5 cable minimum. F5 recommends Category 5e or Category 6.

     

     

    1000Base-T Copper Ethernet Transceiver SFP module specifications

     

     

    Connector Type: RJ45

     

    Maximum operating distance: 100 meters (328 feet)

     

    Cable specifications: Minimum Category 5 (Cat5), Cat5e or Cat6 recommended

     

    Supported Platforms: 1600, 3600, 3900, 6900, 8900, 8950, 11050

     

     

    Only SFP modules provided by F5 are supported.
