Creation of 2 virtuals with same IP and Port.

Can we create 2 virtuals with same destination IP and same port? If yes, then can someone please tell how to create?

  • Why do you need two virtuals with same destination and same port what do you want to achieve with this config ?

  • Someone asked then I said no we cannot create but thought of cross check with experts. That's why raised this question.

  • No you can't

But why would you want two virtual servers with the same ip address and port?

  • You can create two virtual servers with the same IP address and port, but only if certain other configuration settings cause the servers to be listening for different types of traffic. For example, one could be configured with a TCP protocol profile, the other for UDP. Or you could use the Source Address setting to have one listen for traffic from a specific range of client IP addresses, and the other to the rest (or to a different range). Other than that, I'm not aware of any other exceptions. The BIG-IP system should warn you when you try to save a virtual server if it creates any overlapping configuration or traffic conflict with another virtual server.

  • Utilize the same VIP and change the ports, that's the basic solution.
