Performance of virtual edition

Hi!

Besides a few new 2000s Big-IP's we have installed quite a lot of virtual editions in our customer's networks. When it comes to new projects, customers tend to ask what performance one could expect from the virtual edition in comparison to the bare metal appliances. But besides the 1Gbit max throughput license limit, i cannot find any perfomance figures on any virtual edition documentation.

I understand that the performance will mainly depend on the underlying vmware environment. But if the vmware host has recent CPUs, good network cards etc and is not badly overbooked, which performance could be expected?

Greetings!

  • Hi Andreas,

You can work with your local F5 SE (www.f5.com/howtobuy/) to get help sizing different platforms, including VE.

  • Hi I have one contribution to make re SSL TPS on VE. I asked our account team the following question;-

What testing has been done on LTM-VE to determine max SSL TPS (2K keys) and bulk encryption on a “Westmere” processor ie a Cisco UCS B200 M3?

and I got the following answer;-

    Info I have is
Max SSL transaction (2k key) 3400tps
    Max SSL Bulk encryption 3Gbps
