BIG-IQ - Device Interface Communication - Management or Self-IP

Hello,

I found this in the Connectivity requirements for the BIG-IQ system:

Device Interface Communication

"The system can use either a self IP address or the management IP address. The preferred communication method is a self IP address."

Does anybody knows why the preferred communication method is a self IP address? What is the risk of using only the management IP?

Thanks

  • IMHO, the criteria of using both of the self-IP and management IP or only management IP address is how much you want to segregate data and control traffic.

Therefore the risk of using only management IP address would be the lost of LTM/GTM stat data, LTM/GTM accessibility issue from BIG-IQ, lost of management through BIG-IQ if there is any issue with the management network.
