F5 APM Inactive Timeout behaviour

We have many websites fronted with a combination of LTM and APM.

I'm trying to figure out what type of traffic would reset the APM Inactive Timeout settings. The manual refers to the session update threshold and session update window settings (under network access configuration) controlling the behavior of the inactivity timeout settings, but I don't see those available under network access. Actually I don't see any settings in Network access related to the APM policy.

What am I missing?

  • every time a request is received by the APM, the session expiration time is updated to :

    current time + inactivity_timeout

  • Facing ditto similar issue, every time APM inactivity time out is reached, session instead of expiring, renews for next 2 mins & this continues, actually it never reaches timeout. Please help.

  • You'll find the Session Update Threshold and the Session Update Window (assuming you're running v12.1.3 - you know how they like to rearrange items in the menu from one major release to the next...) here:

Access Policy => Network Access => Network Access List You should now see one or more network access lists. Select the one you need, then click on the "Network Settings" tab at the top and then look in the "General Setting" (Advanced) section.

    Good luck!
