iRule function 'virtual' forwarding from /Common to another partition

Is anyone aware of the ability to use the iRule function 'virtual' to forward from /Common to another virtual server in another partition?

I found a psuedo iRule in the answers forum suggesting 'virtual /Partition/virtualserver .. which probably works from a child partition to /Common (because of the inheritance) but not the other way (which I know breaks rules ... but would be very handy if there was a way to do this - especially given that /Common is only available to the F5 true admin if following best practice)

  • Hi Jason,

I don't think it's the right thing to do IT, more I think it's not possible (at least it's not compliant):

    Check this article: https://support.f5.com/kb/en-us/products/big-ip_ltm/manuals/product/tmos-concepts-11-5-0/8.html

This figure shows an example of an invalid object-referencing configuration, where a virtual server resides in partition Common, but the pool the virtual server references resides in a different partition. In this case, the virtual server cannot successfully forward traffic to the pool that it is referencing...

My question is why you don't create pool or vs needed in the common partition? (duplicate your VS from another partition)...

    keep me update. Regards
