Reverse lookup of wide ips'

Hi,

When delegating DNS traffic to Wide IP's all examples demonstrate name resolution, obviously handled by the GTM module 'out of the box'.

I'm wondering about reverse lookups, will the GTM handle reverse 'out of the box' in a simple delegated implementation or do I need to implement zone runner to handle reverse?

Thanks

J

    Hi Jason,

PTR records are not configured at the WideIP level. The WideIP only assigns A records. You'll need to configure the PTR records for the given IPs via ZoneRunner. Here is the section from the GTM manual regarding ZoneRunner: http://support.f5.com/kb/en-us/products/big-ip_gtm/manuals/product/gtm_config_10_2/gtm_zfd.html?sr=10399677.

I usually configure PTR records (for IPs assigned to WideIPs) to reflect their geography and purpose. For instance, if my WideIP was for www.example.com and we had a datacenter in Seattle, Dallas, and New York, I'd configure the PTR records to be sea.www.example.com, dal.www.example.com, and ny.www.example.com.

    Hope this helps!
