You would also want to combine a negative health check like the one you've described with a positive check as well. This would help avoid the possibility that the RADIUS server isn't reachable at all and the negative monitor fails and marks the pool member up. I'd suggest at least using ICMP to verify the node address is responding.

That is exactly what I am doing. I am using a simple UDP port check for the Radius auth ports - 1812 and 1813 for the positive health check.
